Applications of Rotational Moulding:

The roto moulding industry started with manufacture of water tank and such kind of products which were not possible in other moulding process like injection and blow moulding. But now, its products are taking place of injection moulding and blow moulding products.

Therefore, the applications and area of roto moulding is increasing. The roto moulding is making way in following industry.

1. House holds: Water Tank (vertical and horizontal), Loft tank etc.
2. Material Handling: Crates, Pallets, Dust bins, textile trolley etc.
3. Automotive: Fuel Tank, Mud guard etc.
4. Road Safety: Road barrier, Traffic Cone, Road Divider, Traffic Bollard etc.
5. Packaging: Insulated ice Box/cooler box, bins etc.
6. Playing Equipment: Ladder and Slide, Rocker, Garden chair, Toys etc.
7. Agriculture and Construction: Septic Tank, Horse Trough etc.
8. Special Application: Toilet Booth, Telephone booth, Dummy et

Raw Material:

LLDPE (Linear Low Density Poly Ethylene) is the most widely used raw material for roto moulding process. The density used for this material is between 0.930 to 0.936. Vinyls (both liquid and powder form) are the second most widely used raw material for roto moulding.

Steps of Roto Moulding:

The rotational moulding process consist of 6 steps-

1. A predetermined amount of plastic raw material is deposited in one half of a mould.
2. The mould is closed.
3. The mould is rotated bi-axially and heated inside an oven of roto moulding machine.
4. The plastic melts and forms a coating over the inside surface of the mould.
5. After a proper heating in a fixed time, mould is removed from the oven and cooled.
6. The mould is opened and the hollow part/product is removed. It is the final and finished product ready
